I’ve been accepted into The Arctic Circle Residency, a three week program on a boat sailing around Svalbard in October. It’s an exciting opportunity for me, a chance to make art at sea, to be in a very special and rapidly changing part of the world, and to connect with a new network of international artists. But the experience also comes with a pretty hefty price tag, which I’m required to pay well in advance of the trip. For the past several months I have actively been seeking funding through grants and direct requests to foundations with interests in the arts and the Arctic, but to no avail. And so, now I’m requesting support from my community through pre-sales of artwork I will produce during and following the residency.
I’ll be working on a multimedia project (combining photographs and audio recordings) while in Norway, and shooting lots of still images to incorporate into that work. Some of these images will also become prints and/or be integrated into mixed media work with encaustic wax, photo transfers, and paint. I can’t know exactly what the imagery will be like, but I’m anticipating subject matter that would include ice and icebergs, ocean, fjords, and perhaps even a polar bear or two.
I’m offering a few levels of investment for a variety of art for your wall. The dollar amounts are in CAD (great deal for you friends and family in the states! It’s like you get an automatic 30% discount at the moment). This is an opportunity to get some original art work, but also a chance to be a patron of the arts.
Shipping and tax are included.
Option A — $75 — a mini photo encaustic (4x4” photo mounted on cradled wood board with a layer of encaustic wax, ready to hang)
Option B — $125 — fine art print (8x10” on hahnemuhle photo rag paper, small white border, needs frame to hang)
Option C — $250 — mixed media original artwork (8x8” image transfer with painted elements on wood, ready to hang)
Option D — $500 — printed book (10x10” coffee table book of selected images)
Option E — $1000 — a combination of the above (2 mini encaustics, 2 prints, 1 mixed media piece, 1 book)
Please be in touch if you would like to make a contribution of a different amount than I’m offering here. firstname.lastname@example.org
